Delivering upgraded facilities for PolAir
The PolAir Facility at Bankstown Airport serves as the headquarters for NSW Police Aviation Support Branch (PolAir). To support Sydney’s growing needs, new facilities were required to be designed and constructed. The site is owned and managed by Bankstown Airport Limited with the NSW Police as a long-term tenant.
The upgraded facilities include approximately 3,000 m2 of office space across two levels, 7,500 m2 of hangar space, plus adjoining aprons, taxiways, car parks and landscaped areas. The total development area exceeds 25,000 m2, and the project achieved a 4 Star Green Star rating.
Providing design expertise and advice
PDC Consultants was engaged to provide design advice relating to vehicular areas of the development, and to prepare to prepare a Parking Design Compliance report. This ensured the design of the development was safe and met safety and efficiency requirements of not only motorists, but PolAir.
Comprehensive traffic management
PDC was also engaged to provide numerous Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP) reports to facilitate construction of the development. During construction, it was important to have minimal impact on the ongoing operation of the airport. In order to minimise the impact on the day to day functions of the airport, the project was designed in two stages, Stage 1 being the infrastructure works and the taxiway re-alignments, and Stage 2 being the new office, hanger, aprons, car park and landscaping works. PDC supported the project team throughout the whole project lifecycle and ensured that the traffic impacts were mitigated, and importantly, ensured that airport operations were not impacted.
