Sydney’s Basketball Hotspot
Wyatt Park is officially set to become Western Sydney’s basketball hotspot with the construction of the Auburn Basketball Centre of Excellence. Purpose-built to support elite development for both men’s and women’s professional basketball, the facility will cater to players from the WNBL’s Sydney Flames and the NBL’s Sydney Kings, while also opening new opportunities for community use and youth development.
Addressing increased usage by new basketball members
PDC Consultants was engaged to prepare a Transport Impact Assessment (TIA) to support a Review of Environmental Factors for proposed infrastructure upgrades within Wyatt Park, focused on the Auburn Basketball Centre.
Traffic planning and management
PDC’s traffic planning expertise was required given the site’s context within a large multi-user park. The works included road reconfiguration, stormwater upgrades, and a redesigned car park layout to support a future high-performance facility on the site. Parking demand was surveyed, and SIDRA Intersection traffic modelling was undertaken to assess the traffic impacts of the development and to consider any required mitigation.
Developing practical access solutions
The car park and internal accessways were assessed against AS 2890 standards, with swept path analysis confirming satisfactory access for heavy vehicles and buses. The assessment confirmed that internal design, parking geometry, and construction-phase access provisions were compliant. Temporary construction impacts were addressed through wayfinding and mitigation measures which were documented in a Construction Traffic Management Plan.
