Eastern Valley Way intersection upgrade

Enhancing safety and efficiency through strategic upgrades

The Eastern Valley Way Intersection Upgrade was delivered as part of the Network Efficiency Program, which supports the NSW Long Term Transport Masterplan. This initiative focuses on addressing key transport challenges across the State over the next 20 years, improving road network performance and reliability.

Identifying and assessing the need for improvement

The intersection was highlighted as a critical area requiring improvement by the Middle Harbour Precinct and Forest Way Integrated Transport Action Plan. A subsequent Rapid Appraisal further evaluated proposals to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow at this busy junction.

Transport for NSW engaged with the community by hosting an information session to gather feedback on a proposed additional lane on Edinburgh Road. This lane would accommodate a dedicated right-turn lane, enhancing safety and efficiency for both motorists and pedestrians.

Delivering safer and more reliable journeys

The primary goal of this project was to improve safety for motorists turning right from Edinburgh Road into Eastern Valley Way and for pedestrians crossing Eastern Valley Way. Secondary benefits included increased intersection efficiency and improved journey time reliability for all users.

PDC Consultants was engaged by Transport for NSW to conduct a comprehensive Traffic Impact Assessment and traffic modelling for the proposed modifications. This involved sensitivity testing various mitigation measures to maximise benefits for road users while minimising potential impacts, such as the loss of kerbside parking.
