Hall Street traffic study, Bondi Beach

Addressing pedestrian-vehicle conflicts in a busy urban hub

PDC Consultants was engaged by Council to prepare a Traffic Management Plan for a proposed temporary conversion of Hall Street, Bondi Beach, to a one-way northbound road between Gould Street and Glenayr Avenue. This initiative aimed to reduce conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles in a highly pedestrianised area with heavy foot traffic generated by numerous commercial and retail establishments.

Investigating traffic redistribution and network impacts

Our work involved a comprehensive analysis of traffic redistribution resulting from the proposed changes. We assessed multiple alternative routes and used traffic count data to predict potential increases in traffic volumes on nearby roads, ensuring any anticipated impacts were thoroughly understood and mitigated.

Enhancing safety and accessibility in Bondi Beach

By addressing key pedestrian-vehicle conflict points, the Traffic Management Plan aimed to enhance safety and accessibility for the community while maintaining the functionality of the surrounding road network. The findings provided a clear path forward for balancing pedestrian needs with vehicular traffic flow in this vibrant urban environment.
